Default Making money as a new player

Hi, I'm relatively new to this game. I've got a lvl 14 E/Mo, but I'm having trouble making money. I'm not far into the game, somewhere around Gates of Kryta mission, but I have only managed to accumulate about 3k worth of gold in my 30 or some odd hours of playing time. Is there a place to make money for someone at my level? I'm asking because I want to buy better armor at Droknars Forge, but I hear that it costs somewhere around 15k for a set of armor. Any advice would help. At the moment the bulk of my money, (once was at 5k) was aquired from buying steel keys and hoping to get good stuff, like upgrades or max dmg weapons from the chests, but that never really happened. I've even tried saving up charr hides and selling them or crafting them hoping to make about 50g a piece, but thats a long arduous process. Help!

Droknar's Armor only cost's 1.5K gold per piece, which means it's only 7.5K gold in total. On top of that you need the crafting material's, which should only cost you another 3-4K gold max - especially if your hoarding all the crafting materials you get that you'll need for your armor. So it should only cost you 10-12K gold all-up, not 15K.

Also don't waste money on key's.. use any key's that you get from drops, but if your after gold the common consensus is that buy'ing key's doesn't seem to be worth it.

As for making money - I collect everything and sell to merchants. I pick up all the drops and sell to the merchants.. it makes money quite fast. I only toss out stuff if I have a full inventory and whats on the ground is better than anything else I have.. Basically I just play my characters through, pick everything up, salvage everything thats either a salvage drop or is "Highly Salvagable" and sell the rest.

You might also want to try using the sEARCH feature to find info out. Try keywords "making money" & "farming". Here's some you might find useful:

Don't sell anything to the merchants other than Precious items. Salvage everything and keep the materials. You will need a fair bit of them to craft the new armor. After you ge tthe new stuff sell of the remainder to other players. It's a much better return allowing you to purchase new weapons. You will get enough gold collected purely through gold drops.

The collectors armor in the jungle areas is good enough to get you through the desert missions and into Droks that way. Once you get into the Maguuma areas keep every ebon spider leg, **** mandibles (I forget what type, but it's from the scarabs), **** eyes (from the flying mesmers things), **** carapaces (from the ever popular devourers), and maguuma manes. I think five of each will get you a full collector armor set. Any extra items can be sold to other players for 50 to 100 gold each.

True, in my opinion Maguuma jungle is the only place to bother collecting items for armor, the defense will last you up until you get to Droknars. Just to fill in the blanks its mossy mandibles, ancient eyes and thorny carapaces

On making money I have made almost all my money salvaging materials, the problem you will face at this part of the game is that even if you expert salvage everything you will only be getting maybe e.g. 4 or 5 wood planks from a staff than the 10 or 11 you can get in the later stages of the game. I would hold off scrounging materials to sell to other players and traders until maybe you get to Droknars, just sell everything to the merchant as Kamatsu suggested for now

As far as armor goes, there is a CRAFTER outside Sanctum Cay that makes armor only 3AL less than Droknars. However, he has nothing for rangers...

Oh man, you are in luck. Check out what I just posted, about a minute ago. Total coincidence. You even have the same secondary.

Thanks. I took your advice about salvaging materials and selling them. I realize now that the reason it was hard for me to make money is because i was salvaging things in old ascalon and piken and only getting maybe 1 item per salvage. Where I am at now, (lions arch), i salvage crappy shields and staffs and get 8 or more wood planks etc from the stuff, and then people buy them in bulk for a huge profit. I made like 500g after buying 1 salvage kit and selling the materials to a needy person. It still seems like a slow process, but in the 2 hours of playing i made about 1500g. Thanks for the advice.
